Stress and Anxiety

Stress and illness are linked.

These days people talk more openly about stress and anxiety than ever before.

Did you know that an estimated 75- 90% of doctor visits are stress-related problems?

Less stress = better health

Acupuncture is a great way to de-stress. No matter what a patient’s main complaint is, the treatment always includes a focus on reducing stress and anxiety. Who is not stressed in our society today? Unfortunately, there is a lot of stress in our society. Many day to day aspects of society do not help – the media is fear based, our health care system is disease and illness based… even though miracles happen all the time, the focus seems to be fixed on the ‘bad’ news, the doom and gloom. Suggestion: Stop listening to main stream media! I’ve heard CNN described as Crises News Network – I’m not picking on CNN, but it’s a realistic summary of what some people watch and listen to every day – sometimes on repeat! Don’t do that if you want to be stress free, don’t do it if you want good health.

Some common ways stress affects people include problems sleeping, problems digesting food, tension headaches, TMJ discomfort (clenching jaw), overthinking and worrying, and mind racing.

One simple yet profound way to understand acupuncture is that it helps the body to relax. Once it is relaxed (or ‘in balance’), then the body can heal itself.

Aim to achieve inner peace.

Everything is better when we are peaceful inside. We cannot change the outside world or anyone else, but when we are at peace within ourselves, we see a different angle, things don’t bother us so much. When we change, everything changes. Acupuncture can help you get there.

How do you know if you have changed; if you have achieved a new level of inner peace? The answer is that you don’t react the same way you used to when something happens that used to bother you.

Acupuncture can make a difference.

Time to allow your energy to flow, your emotions to flow.

Acupuncture is all about flow – flow of blood, flow of Qi and flow of emotions. There is an ancient saying ‘When energy flows, disease and illness cannot enter’. Everything is energy – including your stress, your emotions. If the emotions can flow, rather than feel stuck inside your body, then you are at peace. Then, the next step is to keep that feeling with you at all times. You are on the way to inner peace.

I went to Orla feeling stressed and worn out. After seeing her for a few weeks, my energy started returning and my day-to-day stress felt more manageable. After two months working with Orla, I feel back to my old self. I have enough energy to get through each day, and I feel so much less stressed. I am so grateful that I found her!

Acupuncture makes me feel like I don’t need to control everything. I feel like I am leveling out somewhat; I’m not hot all the time, I’m not stress eating so much at night. I had thought I might just keep going until I fell off a cliff edge.
